We were surprised to read Chesterton Humberts’ commentary on the number of new homeowners in the UK who do not change their locks. They referred to recent research from Keytek Locksmiths which found that a staggering 74% of British Home Owners forget to install new locks when moving house.
Moving home is a stressful time and buying your first home can be even more stressful. Once you have been through all the difficulties involved in getting to the point of completion and actually moving in, the last thing that you may think of is security.
You should also be aware of the small print in your insurance policy which may require you to evidence what you have done about security on moving into a new house. This could impact premiums.
We would suggest that you change the locks when moving into a new home.
